FRAME, VOICE, REPORT!

(2017-2020) és un projecte adreçat a entitats de la societat civil amb l'objectiu enfortir el compromís de la ciutadania europea en relació als Objectius de Desenvolupament Sostenible a través de tres eixos temàtics: les migracions, el gènere i la justícia ambiental.

The project formed by Sos Racisme and the journalists José Colón, Laura Jiménez, and Hajar Boujtat aims at reframing the narratives regarding the phenomenon of young people and children migrating alone to Spain, putting in the center the institutional responsibility. The project was developed in Melilla, Morroco, and Barcelona.

The innovative materials can be seen in this article of the magazine 5W and two articles in Ara.cat:

The materials point at the institutional procedures, buildings, rooms, objects that the youngsters find when they arrive in Spain, as part of a cold and dehumanizing system. 

The project was presented in Barcelona on the 5th of March 2020 in Barcelona.

The project of AlterNativa shows how the global economic system feeds on the exploitation of resources and the violation of human and collective rights. Specifically, it focuses on the indigenous communities of Guatemala.

They have launched a campaign on change.org that calls for the release of the indigenous and human rights defender Bernardo Caal. This audiovisual interview from Caal shows his voice from prison. They published an article in La Directa and Séptimo Sentido.

Three articles have been published in Ara.cat, focusing on the role of the businessman Florentino Pérez and the alliance with the oligarchies of Guatemala in hydroelectric projects on the Cahabón river:

The project counted with the collaboration of Èlia Borràs and Augusto Magaña, and many associations both from Catalonia and Guatemala that collaborated to strengthen networks and make visible the interconnections in causes and contexts between North and Global South.

The project from Associació Acció Internacional Per la Pau focuses on the role of civil society and social movements in transforming the Colombian armed conflict, paying particular attention to two main realities: the role of women in the process (social leaders, ex-combatants, victimized women) and exile in building peace from abroad.

The project had the collaboration of the journalist Melissa Silva Franco and Marta Saiz Merino.

They published on various media platforms, both in Colombia and Spain. El Salto published two reports, combining audiovisual and text, showing what the peace agreement means for the Colombian civil society through their own voices:

The project from Fundació SURT talks about labor exploitation of Moroccan women working on strawberry picking in Spain and Morocco from a gender perspective and the role the north-south border plays.

Though a multiplatform investigation, the project's main objective is to document and report the violence suffered by Morrocan temporary workers on both sides of the border through the stories of the main witnesses, all women. In addition, it also points out and inefficacy and irresponsibility of the administration and public institutions in protecting their working conditions and human rights.

The team was formed by SURT and Maria AltimiraQuique Badia, David Meseguer and Pablo Tosco.

The project was created by the association Fora de Quadre and Casa Amaziga de Barcelona, together with the journalist Núria Vila.

"The Amazighs: a forced diaspora" explains the Amazigh identity and its connection with Catalonia as a result of the migrations caused by the poverty generated by Moroccan discriminatory policies and the lack of rights and freedoms in the country, as well as the plunder of resources.

 

One of the main results of the project is the audiovisual report: "Amazighs: a forced diaspora". For example, it was projected in the Film Cycle "Cinematografías del Sur", that shows materials that explain stories and conflicts from the Global South that are connected with our realities in the North.

The project is formed by Fundación InteRed, Fundación Colectivo Cabildeo and the journalist Marta Molina. It points out at the visions, voices and stories of women, girls and feminist groups that, from their personal and professional experience, get organized in order to report the situation of violence in all the life spheres in Bolívia. It also emphasizes the personal and collective fight in order to erradicate this violence. 

Violence against women is a global problem, and Bolívia is one of the most extreme cases in that regard. For example, 75% of Bolivian women have suffered violence by their partners and 44% during the last 12 months. The project from Fundació InteRed aims at making this reality more visible with their own witnesses. 

The documentary "Vivas nos queremos" has been produced and an article in the feminist media Pikara Magazine has been published. It is possible to listen to them in Radio 4.

The materials were presented in Ateneu Raval, Barcelona, on the 6th of March 2020.

The journalistic project "The selfie of migration" aims at explaining the experiences of people who migrate from Africa to Spain through their own stories: using the images and videos that they took during the route with their own mobile devices. The main goal of the project is to change the image of the migrant population in Europe, especially women, which are often made invisible.

The project is formed by the organization Open Cultural Center together with the journalists Anna Surinyach, Séverine Sajous and Btihlal Remli. They can be heard on the Catalan radio RAC 1.

The documentary #boza is the main piece of the whole project, compiling the voices and images from 5 migrants who try to get to Europe; migration stories from within. The documentary is available in the magazine 5W and it was presented in Centre Cívic Pati Llimona, Barcelona, the 3rd of March 2020.

The project "17 and more" is a journalistic project that seeks to raise awareness and denounce the violation of the rights of women in El Salvador who are currently sentenced up to 30 years in prison for aggravated murder. Their only crime: having suffered a miscarriage or medical malpractice.

The project is formed by the Fundación Acció, Benestar i Desenvolupament and the journalists Ferran Alcalde, Paula Ericsson, Àngel García and María Luz Nóchez, and it was published in El Periódico, where it is explained the stories of 4 imprisoned women for having a misscarriage, in their cases involuntarily.

The project created the documentary "La vida después", presented in Cinemes Texas, Barcelona, the 3rd of March 2020.

The project analyzes the situation of Syrian laborers, refugee women, and girls in the informal settlements in the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon. They work in the fields of the surroundings of Bar Elias in conditions of exploitation and precariousness, while their work is a great contribution to the support of their families in exile.

 

"Aamelat souriyat: Syrian day labourer, refugee women and girls in the Bekaa Valley" is formed by the collaboration of the NGO Alkaria and the photojournalist Eva Parey

"The Lybian crossroad" is about the "deadly passage" that many refugees take through Libya and the central Mediterranean to Europe, where the lucky are the ones rescued and those who do not die. They analyze the extreme situation in Libya, which has been devastated by the wars since 2011. The project also explains the route from the countries of origin and the causes that lead them to embark on this journey.

The project of the water business aims at showing the methodology and the effects of Agbar in Mexico, a Catalan transnational corporation, and the possible violation of the human right to Water and Sanitation, as the United Nations recognizes.

The project is formed by Enginyeria Sense Fronteres and the journalists Víctor Yustres, Jordi Sans, Ricardo Balderas, Eduardo Martín-Borregón and Marina Freixa.

The main communication was the documentary "Turbid water", that talks about the water business in Saltillo, Mexico, managed by the Catalan company Agbar and the municipality of the town. It was presented in Cinemes Girona on the 26th of February 2020.

The Backway makes a photographic tour with text by eight profiles of women who lived the migration process in different ways. It shows the complexity of the migratory phenomenon and at the same time denounces human rights violations during the route and discrimination in countries of origin and destination.

The project is formed by the collaboration between Open Arms, Asociación Solidaria y Logística and the journalists Pau Coll and Clara Roig.

Projectes becats 2018

The project "Caring between lands" aims at informing about the phenomenon of care transnational chains, create awareness about the impacts of these chains on the global North and South and increase the visibility of how our well-being is based on the invisible and precarious work of migrant women. Most of them are from Latin America, forced to leave from situations of poverty, partly generated by translational corporations. Also, the project wants to reflect on the fair and sustainable formulas of community organizations.

Now you are a woman explains the empowerment and the overcoming of vulnerability and violence of lesbian women, bisexual and queer (LBQ) in Kenia. They do so through Gerald Hayo, an activist LBQ survivor of one of the most extreme and violent practices against lesbian women: corrective rape. The audiovisual report goes through her life in Mombasa, where she lives and works with her girldfriend Deedee, and her return to Kisumu, her natal city where her own family refuses her.

Fugir per estimar i ser puts light on the rights violations on the LGBTI community and its resistence network in Marrocco, as well as denouncing the obstacles that they find when asking for international protection to Spain.

Project formed by Comissió Catalana d’Ajuda al refugiat and Servei Civil Internacional de Catalunya with the collaboration of the journalists Víctor Yustres, Sònia Calvó and Victòria Oliveres.

 

The report has been published in La Directa, Pikara magazine, Catalunya PluralEl Salto and El Foro de Ceuta. They also talked about in Betevé, and on the radio programs Solidaris and Estat de Gràcia from Catalunya Ràdio, on Diari de GironaOrgull RàdioRàdio Malva and on the website Barcelona Ciutat Refugi.

The documentary has been presented in the Catalan cities of Barcelona, Tarragona, Begues, Sant Boi de Llobregat, Sabadell, Girona, Premià de Dalt and also València. It received the first prize of audiovisual products of  photojournalism jove Clic 2019, organized under the Visa Off event, held alongside the international festival Visa pour l'image.

The project "The Pakistani diaspora in Barcelona" gets closer to the Pakistani community that lives in Catalonia and goes deeper into their origin in order to understand better the migratory process and the role of women into the transformation of the community. 

The project is developed by CIDOB and the Magazine 5W (Agus Morales and Anna Surinyach) and IBCUrdu (Sabookh Syed) and Salman Qazi.

The Magazine 5W has published three reports: "You don't know it, but your neighbour is from here", "They also play cricket... in Barcelona", and "Misbah".  The project has been disseminated through the Pakistani media IBCURDU and the radio program No ho sé from RAC1. It has been presented in several public events in Barcelona and Islamabad.

"In the belly of Congo" points out at the fight of Congolese women in achieving maternity free of risks. It is the case of Céline Tendobi, head of gynecology and obstetrics of the Congolese hospital in Monkole. 

Tendobi moves to different health centers in the middle of the jungle in order to guarantee the right to health of pregnant women and their babies and to prevent possible complications in a country where 30.000 women and 20.000 babies die every year during childbirth and the following days.

The project was developed by Fundació Montblanc in collaboration with the journalists from Mugunzu Xavier Aldekoa and Edu Marín. It can be read in La Vanguardia (digital or on paper), watched on TeleSUR and AJ+ Español, and heard on the Catalan radio program No ho sé from RAC1.

In the Colombian context of peacebuilding, what role cocalera women have in Tumaco and Catatumbo? They are facing the dichotomy of continuing to be part of the drug trafficking chain of replacing their crops and, therefore, confront the armed groups that want to control the territory.

Cocalera women facing the challenges of the peacebuilding process in Colombia is a project from Associació Catalana per la Pau (ACP) with the collaboration of the journalist team formed by Javier Sulé, Ana Milena (Milo) del Castillo, Germán Reyes and Eloisa Arcila.

The documentary has been presented on the program Latituds from the Catalan Television and several reports have been published in El Periódico, El Punt Avui, Diari Ara, Planeta Futuro (El País) and Yo Dona (El Mundo).

Actividades de Construcción i servicios, ACS, the main infrastructure builder in Spain and which receives public contracts from the Catalan government, as well as one that has signed the United Nations on Corporate Responsibility, participates in projects in Mexico that have been reported for violations of human rights, for overexploitation of natural resources and even for non-compliance with local legislation.

ACS, Florentino's foul play in Mexico explains the three different ACS interventions carried out together with other Spanish and Catalan companies - such as gas extraction by fracking in San Fernando (Tamaulipas), wind farms in the 'Isthmus of Tehuantepec (Oaxaca) and the construction of the New International Airport of Mexico City.

The project was done by Taula per Mèxic with the collaboration of the journalists team formed by Sandra Vicente, Majo Siscar, José Gil OlmosMarta Molina, Daniela Pastrana and the network Periodistas de a Pie.

Arsal: The impact of the war in 300 km2 focuses on the Sirian conflict and explains the behaviour of the international community and the impacts on the civil population through a Libian town at 317 km2, Arsal, located at 12km from the Sirian border that before the war had 37.000 inhabitants (2012) and now hosts 120.000 refugee people in 132 camps.

How to respond to an increase in the demographic pressure of these characteristics? What changes does it generate in the social and economic dynamics of the municipality? What is the relation between the local population and the newcomers? How are areas such as employment or the environment affected?

The project is formed by Associació Catalunya-Líban with the collaboration of the journalists Nilton Torres and Lina Baalbaki with the support of PeMÓN Films.

 

The project has been published in El Periódico, El Salto and TV L'Hospitalet. It can also be heard on Ràdio Sant Boi and read on Diari de Menorca and the website Confederació de Fons de Cooperació i Solidaritat.

 The photographic exposition "Arsal: The impact of the war in 300 km2" has been presented in Maó and Barcelona.

The Sahara, a desert in motion shows the impact of the policy of externalizing borders on the current migratory routes from Africa to Southern Sahara to Europe and the human rights violations it entails, with special attention to the situation of women

The project is formed by Alianza por la Solidaridad in collaboration with the journalist Oriol Puig.

 

They have published different reports in: eldiario.es, Diari Ara, el blog Planeta Futuro de El País, Euractiv (Europe), MondAfrique (Europe), Mediaspost (Senegal), Aïr Info (Niger), Alternative Espaces Citoyens (Niger), Cenozo, Periferia (Colombia) and El desconcierto (Chile).

The daily elaboration of the reports can be read in the blog “Una aventura en el Sahel”.

During the implementation of the project, the event "The impact of the policies on externalizing borfers in Europe. Beyond the Southern Border" was done in Barcelona, with the participation of the CSO and journalists of the project, activist from Stop Mare MortumMaison des Migrant de Gao and Alternative Espaces Citoyens.

The results have been published and shared through different events held in Barcelona, Madrid, Las Palmas, Edimburg, Brussel·les and Niamey.

Alert defenders shows the contexts where the social and political activities from women defenders of human rights in Mesoamerica are done, emphasizing the gender component that shapes the violences they face, what resistance and incidence strategies they use, how they coordinate in an international level and what protection mechanisms they apply to ensure that they can continue to execute their activities and defending their lives.

The project was promoted by Calala Fondo de Mujeres and SUDS with the collaboration of the journalists María Zafra, Teresa Boedo and Saioa Baleztena.

After Berta Cáceres: Globalizing resistance aims at exposing the business and financial chain involved in the Honduran hydroelectric project of Agua Zarca and, at the same time and above all, make visible the networks of the fight for global justice and in defense of the territory and the environment woven between north and south as a result of the murder of Honduran human rights defender Berta Cáceres.

The project is done by Entrepobles with the collaboration of Col·lectiu Contrast.

 

El documentary "The seeds of Berta Cácereshas been screened in the program Latituds of the Catalan TV and they have published two pieces in El Periódico and La Directa.

Voices from the vereda is a documentary portrait that shows a small community in eastern Colombia, La Cooperativa, a direct protagonist of the current peace process and the more than five decades of armed conflict. Its inhabitants, through their stories, memories, views, anecdotes, dreams, their day to day and their future plans, reflect on the impacts of the implementation of the current Peace Agreement between the Government and the FARC-EP, and the progress that is already beginning to be seen, but also the setbacks and how to overcome present and future obstacles from a community point of view.

The project was implemented by the Institut de Drets Humans de Catalunya and Lliga dels Drets dels Pobles with the collaboration of the journalists Iris Aviñoa, Santi Trullenque, Alexandra Loaiza, Sara Pardo, Núria Jar i Cristina Massó.

They have published in the following media: a spetial in United Explanations (an interview to a farmer, a teacher, a former member of FARC and to the parents of a missing person), in Catalunya Plural, in blog Planeta Solidario from La Vanguardia, in the program Territori Clandestí from Ràdio 4, Diari de Sabadell, Ràdio SabadellDiari de Girona, TV Girona and the portal of sustainable tourism Travindy.

The documentary "Voices from the vereda" has been screened in Betevé and projected in cinemes Girona in Barcelona, cinemes Imperial from Sabadell, the Cinema Museum in Girona and the University Externado of Colombia, in Bogotá.
